This marked the start of something new, my first dedicated bird photography walk, right here in London at the Walthamstow Wetlands just 30 mins from my home in East London. I’ve walked this area before, but this time I brought my camera, some patience, and a different perspective.
This Canada Goose was my highlight. Caught low to the ground, framed by greenery and backed by a streak of jet trail in the morning sky, it reminded me how vibrant and alive our urban wild spaces are.

Birding is new to me, but it feels like a perfect fit. Quiet observation, small details, and the reward of a single frame that works. A good way to spend a retired morning, and maybe the start of another long hobby.
What stood out most wasn’t just the wildlife, but the shift in mindset. Slowing down, watching more than walking, letting the landscape reveal itself rather than chasing it. It’s a refreshing change from the pace of past routines, and one I’m learning to appreciate.
The wetlands offer space to breathe, to observe, and to reconnect with nature just a few miles from central London.
